Spectre: 5 Theories For Who Andrew Scott's Denbigh Really Is

3. He's A SPECTRE Double Agent (SPOILERS)

See that Spoiler warning? Don't ignore it, this is where the early script comes into play. Going back to the Sony leaks that threatened to cripple the company entirely (when a female Blofeld was suggested and rejected within minutes, apparently) one of the biggest remaining suggestions from the information that carelessly made its way to the web was that MI6 has a mole infestation. In the original script, it wasn't going to be Denbigh: it was Tanner (played by the excellent, under-used Rory Kinnear) who turned out to be the deeply entrenched mole, monitoring and sabotaging as necessary. Now, the fact that that much was revealed might well mean that the script was entirely changed (just as The Hateful Eight was redrafted when that too was leaked), and it would make sense that they'd simply bring in another candidate to be revealed as the mole. The fact that he's in such a lofty position would make his revelation surprising to the characters at least, though it now seems like almost a cliche that he's going to be revealed as a double agent. But then film-makers don't often avoid obvious twists for the sake of obviousness...
