Spectre: 8 Things Sam Mendes Doesn't Want You To Know

7. The Movie Was Rewritten Just Before Filming Began

Also revealed in those distraught emails between Spectre producers: the script for the film was nowhere near good enough. While those involved generally agreed the first two thirds of the film were up to scratch (MGM boss Jonathan Glickman: "For what it's worth, I think first 100 pages are fantastic"), the whole third act was straight-up awful.

In the various leaked emails, producers say things like "we need to cut 20 pages" and "rough rough rough...", while calling the twists confusing and the climactic set-pieces "overblown and familiar" - and this was with just weeks to go before the shoot. The solution: keep the first two-thirds, and rewrite the entire bewildering, anti-climactic final act.

Now, this information is important, because 1. it means anything you hear about the third act of the film from the Sony leaks should now be taken with a pinch of salt, because that portion of the movie has been completely altered, and 2. anything you hear about the two thirds that come before that is still pretty solid information.
