Spectre Trailer Breakdown - Everything You Missed And Need To See
Meeting With M
The Mexico City action is intercut with a meeting between Bond and M, which feels particularly one-sided. Bond's getting a dressing down for his unauthorised, failed mission to Mexico City, and we're shown how the top brass of MI6 are going interact. Ralph Fiennes was brand new to the single-lettered moniker at the end of Skyfall, after spending most of the film mocked by Bond. Having the power balance shifted by Mexico City is a great way to establish the new M as a distinct character to the previous portrayals and make clear his relationship with 007. And, of course, there's a quip. Gotta love the quips - even the top-down reboot Casino Royale worked in a few sly jokes (although nothing as bad as "I thought Christmas only comes once a year"). Now we're in the post-Skyfall, old-new world, however, the skies are the limit. This one's a real doozy ("I was taking some overdue holiday"), given how utterly out of place it is.
