Spider-Man: 10 Reasons Sony Should Fire Andrew Garfield

1. Emma Stone Is Gone

One of the saving graces of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise has been the great chemistry between real life couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. This romance flourished in the two instalments of the franchise, but now that Gwen Stacy has been slain in the climactic scenes of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, this dynamic has been lost forever. She was contracted to appear in sequels, but this would likely have been as a eerie memory, much like the ghost of her father in the second film. Although Andrew Garfield€™s character could fall in love with Shaleine Woodley€™s Mary-Jane Watson in future films, audiences would see her as a cheap replacement for the true love of Spider-Man€™s life. This is a synamic which has been explored in the comics, but would be hard to bring to life on screen in the current state. Leaked e-mails show that Marvel were not interested in exploring romance in the movies, intending to tackle the issue of how a teenager copes with being a superhero; Garfield was perfect for the romance side, but it isn€™t easy to imagine him succeeding without a romantic counterpart. What did you think? Who would you want to replace him? Did we miss anything out? Let us know in the comments below.
