Spider-Man: 15 Actors Who Almost Played Major Roles

Oh Freddie, where are you now? Presumably living off his Scooby Doo money, Freddie Prinze jr. nowadays lends his voice to video games more than live action, but he too could have been a big name in the superhero genre. Prinze Jr. said he wanted the part as Peter Parker so bad and was so close - he pretty much learned to read off comic books like Spider-Man, so that sounds like pretty solid credentials.

Apparently, he wasn't the only one who thought so. Before Tobey Maguire was hopping off rooftops and climbing sideways up walls, Freddie Prinze Jr. was told that Spider-Man was his "flick." Discussing it on the Howard Stern Show, Prinze Jr. revealed that he was Sony's first choice as Spider-Man, but it was Sam Raimi who didn't agree. Could the I Know What You Did Last Summer hero have been a little too poster boy to play Peter Parker? I always saw him as more of a Flash Thompson than the science geek. I wouldn't worry too much though, being married to Sarah Michelle Gellar must be a pretty sweet deal.
