Spider-Man: 5 Reasons Drew Goddard Is Perfect (And 5 He's Not)

3. Sinister Six Is Still A Weird Idea

Some of the rumours about Goddard's appointment to the directing and writing roles of the new Spider-Man have come along with the extra info that this film will include Iron Man in some capacity, with the character moving from a headliner of his own movies to an ensemble member who's appearing not only in the next Avengers but also the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Iron Man will apparently be playing third fiddle in this rumoured Goddard Spider-Man script, though, with Peter Parker's main concern being The Sinister Six. Goddard had previously been working on Sony's ill-advised villain spin-off, which was to be a distinct entity from the third Amazing Spider-Man film. Which is an idea everyone was struggling to get their heads around. So, it'd be a movie about the villains, with a small-to-to-non-existent role for Spidey? How would that work? Now it's even more confusing - aren't these meant to be established villains pooling their resources? Then surely that doesn't have the same impact if this is a new Spider-Man and a totally new set of bad guys.
