Spider-Man: 5 Reasons Drew Goddard Is Perfect (And 5 He's Not)

4. World War Z Was Partly His Fault

To be fair, by the time it finally got released Marc Foster's extremely loose adaptation of Max Brooks' bestselling novel World War Z had a good half dozen people credited for the script - Goddard rubbed shoulders with everyone from Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski to State Of Play's Matthew Michael Carnahan and Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof -but he is at least partly responsible. World War Z was perhaps doomed from the start, throwing out as it did the oral history documentary style of the book in favour of a fairly standard Hollywood action film, with Brad Pitt's retired hero dragged back for one last job so he can rescue his perfect middle American family from a world-wide zombie plague. It wasn't helped that the production itself was plagued by any number of issues, most of which seemed to revolve around the script. Now again, Goddard was one of many who worked on that screenplay, but the fact they struggled to get something good out of what was on the page perhaps doesn't bode well for this film he's apparently writing and directing.
