2. Kevin Feige Is Not Involved
From the outside, it was hard to tell what Sony would be getting out of the deal with Marvel, other than a healthy slice of money, until it was revealed that they could effectively use Marvel Studio's expertise to make their own Spider-Man movies. Their blue chip commodity in that deal was Kevin Feige, who we were promised would help oversee Sony's expanded Spideyverse in some sort of executive capacity.
No matter how limited that role was, having the man who built the MCU - an incredible strategist, a great creative mind and a good man to have at the top of your hierarchy - could never be classed as a bad thing. So what has changed?
Why, as soon as the first two spin-offs are announced, is it also revealed that Feige has no involvement at all? Even naming him as an executive producer would have been cause for Marvelites to celebrate: it's effectively like having a built in ship-steadying influence, and a major boost for audience confidence.
And while it might sound a little strange to exalt one man so much, but that's exactly what that deal seemed to do when it was announced!
