Spider-Man: Far From Home - What The Explosive Ending Really Means

9. Tony Stark Got His Wish (But Learned Nothing)

You might think that Tony Stark's arc ended satisfyingly when he gave up his life to save his universe and protect the lives of those he loved. That was, after all, the hero ending that he had been set up for ever since Captain America challenged him to be the guy to lay down on the wire way back in The Avengers.

Over the course of just over ten years, Tony supposedly learned that he couldn't hope to put a safety blanket around the world and that seeking one extreme measure to protect Earth was always dangerous. That was, after all, the path that had led Thanos to several acts of genocide and one "Blip."

Strangely, though, Far From Home walks back some of Tony's epiphany by revealing that he built a drone system called EDITH (Even Dead I'm The Hero) to pass on to Spider-Man (more of which soon) that could be used as a sort of key to Earth's safety. Naturally, it falls into someone else's hands, because Tony learned absolutely nothing from the other times that happened. There's actually something sort of fitting in that little sting.
