Spider-Man: Homecoming - 10 Spidey Movie Mistakes It Must Avoid
2. Over-Using Robert Downey Jr.
Yes, we all love RDJ's performance as Tony Stark, and with Iron Man 4 looking increasingly unlikely, we need all the screen time we can get from him. That being said, let's remember this is a Spider-Man film and not an Iron Man film.
Presumably the student/mentor relationship will continue with Stark as Parker's Mr. Miyagi, and we will see Peter getting to grips with his Iron Spider suit. We can also assume that the two won't be confined to Peter's bedroom, because let's be honest, that would be a little weird.
Looking back to Civil War, the scenes with Downey Jr. and Holland set up a buddy comedy of sorts, but moving forward, Holland has to remain the focus. With a personality as big as RDJ it would be easy for him to become the scene stealer, so I suggest that he flies in on his private jet, drops off some tech, then flies off to find where the hell Pepper has been for the past gazillion films.
An Iron-light version of the film is the only way Holland will be able to establish himself in a universe as crowded as the MCU. Worryingly, the Homecoming storyline from the comics actually includes a lot more super cameos when The Beyonder dumped Earth's mightiest heroes back in their usual spots.
Hopefully the Marvel crew will remember that this is a Spider-Man solo film and not Civil War Part 2.
