Spider-Man: Homecoming - 10 Valid Criticisms That Can't Be Ignored
8. The Action Is Decent, But Forgettable
It would be ludicrous to say that Homecoming features bad action sequences, but conversely they're not exactly all that memorable, either. The Staten Island Ferry assault, the Washington Monument attack and the climactic plane showdown with Vulture just lack the energy and directorial flair that made, say, Sam Raimi's battles featuring the Green Goblin and Doc Ock so thrilling to watch.
The scenes in this film play as though shot by a director much more interested in the characters and dialogue than the fighting, which of course eventually gives way to excessive CGI overload during the final battle.
The film really is so much more effective as a comedy than an action film, and to that end arguably the most enjoyable set-piece in the entire movie involved Peter making his way through a neighbourhood without his web-shooters, because it had heart and was a smart subversion of the expected.
