Spider-Man: Homecoming - 26 New Things We Just Learned
25. Don't Expect The Osborns, Doc Ock Or Venom In Sequels
Though it will be nice to see new villains in Marvel's Spider-Man movies, it's still a pretty major shame that we won't get to see another take on two of the most famous - Doc Ock and Norman Osborn.
But when Nerdist spoke to executive producer Eric Caroll, they specifically asked about those two, and it doesn't sound particularly positive:
"We want to tread lightly with what’s been done in the past films in terms of, like, the Osborns, and things like that. So I don’t think, we’re not going directly down that route any time soon...
It also doesn't sound from his comments like anyone should get excited about Venom either, even though Tom Holland says he'd love to fight the villain:
"There’s a Venom movie in development. We have not been told of [any characters] we’re not allowed to play with at the moment. [Sony] do have their own plans. What it is at the moment, we’re not sure what it is after this."
Director Jon Watts did map out some idea of who might appear in the sequels though:
“We have some ideas of who could fit in in an interesting way, but we’re just trying to build Spider-Man’s side of the world in a rich way that could organically lead to some of that great rogues’ gallery.”
And also who probably won't:
“Not Jackson Weele , you guys know Jackson Weele? He’s like one of the silliest of all villains. His name is Jackson Weele and he becomes Big Wheel and he rides around in a giant wheel…There’s some real, real classic villains. Will-O’-The-Wisp. Gideon Mace, he has an arm that’s a mace that also shoots mace. You just imagine the writers just cracking up. ‘We’re late for our deadline, uhhh…Gideon Mace.’ It’s so fun.”
