Spider-Man: Homecoming - 9 Big Implications For The Future Of The MCU
9. The Scorpion Will Probably Be The Next Spidey Villain
By this stage, the question with MCU movies is how many scenes you'll have to sit through once the end-credits start rolling, and whether they'll actually connect to the future, or just be a fun gag.
Spider-Man: Homecoming only has two - which is nothing compared to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - and follows the more typical approach of mixing one joke with one setup.
The gag is brilliant, but it's the mid-credits sting (and that is the operative word here) that has a big implication for the future, as we get the return of Michael Mando's Mac Gargan. The character isn't in the film much, but he does appear enough to have a serious beef with Spider-Man by the end, and wants to discover his identity.
Gargan is, of course, the alter-ego of the villain Scorpion, a big foe of Spidey from the comics who is often part of the Sinister Six. This feels like an easy setup for at least one more appearance from Mando, as the villain of Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (or whatever that movie ends up being called), along with a nod towards the potential formation of the Six too.
