Spider-Man: Homecoming - Predicting The Plot In 8 Steps
Spoiler alert: Spider-Man does not die.
It's been just over two years since the unexpected announcement that Spider-Man would be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and after one successful big-screen cameo, the character's first standalone movie is about to land.
That two year-wait has ensured the amount of pressure on Spider-Man: Homecoming is immense, since under Marvel's guidance, everyone's expecting it to be nothing short of spectacular - but fortunately, after a handful of solid trailers, things are looking positive.
And while that latest trailer did perhaps reveal just a little bit too much, we still don't officially know many details about the movie's plot.
We know it involves Spidey, Iron Man and Vulture, with sub-villains Tinkerer and Shocker planted somewhere in the mix, but as is the case with any movie pumped out by the MCU machine, secrecy is paramount.
However, if you look at the characters involved, certain lines and shots from both trailers and the themes the movie will likely explore, it is possible to piece together a rough, beginning-to-end story...
8. Peter's School Life & Crime-Fighting Antics
The film will begin exactly how we're all expecting it to, introducing us to Peter's school life, his school friends and his street-level crime-fighting. We'll be shown scenes like the bank robbery from the first trailer, and the scene with Peter and Ned (Jacob Batalon) gazing at Liz (Laura Harrier).
Opening like this will provide Peter with a clear starting point from which his character can develop, as the film progresses. He'll start by taking down small-time criminals and being something of an outcast at school, before transitioning to bigger baddies like Vulture and earning the admiration of the girl he fancies by the film's end.
But the small steps will come first. Despite his powers, Peter is still a regular kid with a regular life, and the movie will show us how this clashes with his more adventurous exploits.
