Spider-Man: Homecoming Vs Spider-Man 2 - Which Is Better?
5. Supporting Cast
Spider-Man 2's more memorable supporting players include the aforementioned Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, James Franco's Harry Osborn, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May, J.K. Simmons' brilliant J. Jonah Jameson, Dylan Baker's under-utilised Curt Connors, Elizabeth Banks as Betty Brant, and a number of memorable cameos, especially Bruce Campbell as a toolbag theater usher.
Aside from the occasional presence of Robert Downey Jr's terrific Tony Stark, Homecoming plucks a host of names from the indie cinema and comedy world, such as Donald Glover, Tony Revolori, Hannibal Buress, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Angourie Rice, Abraham Attah and Martin Starr to name just a few.
They may not be household names for the most part, but they're used exceptionally well, if sparingly, for easy laughs. And how can you not love Peter's show-stealing confidante Ned, played superbly by Jacob Batalon?
Winner: Spider-Man 2 has the star power, but Homecoming has the charm, and thanks to its greater focus on comedy, manages to deliver more entertaining work from its ensemble.
Both movies get great performances from their supporting casts, but Homecoming just felt more creative and unexpected by making use of so many on-the-rise talents.
