Although the pair's reputation has been somewhat sullied by the directorial drama surrounding Disney's long-gestating Han Solo flick, there's no denying they're in their own element for the Spider-Verse.

Having already written and directed one seminal animated feature in The Lego Movie, there's precedent for Lord and Miller to do fantastic things with Miles. That film, bizarrely rubbished upon its announcement as a shameless piece of product placement, turned out to be a critical smash, and visually impressive in a whole host of respects. It's a theme that appears to be carrying through to their first comic book feature, so if the directors can make it even half as fun as The Lego Movie was, we could be in for a real treat indeed.

There's also the fact that the original Lego film featured a raft of comic book characters throughout, so there's clearly a love for the medium woven into their work, one that appears to be shining through already in this next Spidey film.

Add Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street into the mix, and you have a resume that boasts their comedic talents in full force. Here's hoping they'll have the pathos to back it up.
