Spider-Gwen has experienced a remarkable rise since being introduced four years ago. She's become one of Marvel's most popular Spidey characters, no doubt spurred on in part by Emma Stone's performance as the character in the Amazing Spider-Man series, and has since appeared in video games, animated shows, and now a film too.

In Gwen's world, it is her who is bit by a radioactive Spider, and in a mirror image of the infamous "Night Gwen Stacy Died", it turns out to be Peter Parker who ends up dying. It makes for a fascinating parallel, and one of the most compelling alternate Spidey stories ever.

As for why the character's experienced such a meteoric rise? Well the answers are fairly simple. For starters, the idea of flipping Peter Parker's story and giving it to Gwen works brilliantly, and the design made by Robbi Rodriguez is absolutely stunning. It's one of the most unique and inventive superhero costumes made in recent years, and more than deserves the spotlight for Into the Spider-Verse.
