Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Sequel AND Spin-Off Already In The Works
Sony's new Spider-Man movie isn't even out and there are plans for another Marvel Universe.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse doesn't actually hit cinemas for a couple of weeks, but a sequel and a spin-off are already being planned by Sony as part of the burgeoning Spidey-slate.
Word of the two movies comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who say that Joaquim Dos Santos (Voltron) has been tapped to direct the sequel, which will be written by David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984). The spin-off, meanwhile, is reportedly going to focus on the female members of the Spider-Verse teaming up for their own adventure. Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One) is going to direct that one, with a script from Bek Smith (Zoo).
Longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal will once again be producing, and while nothing has been confirmed it's expected that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who've written and produced the first movie, will be creatively involved in the movies as well.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will be released on December 14, and it's already generating some incredibly strong buzz, with the social media reactions hailing it as both one of the best Spidey movies ever and one of the best films of 2018 as well. It does look amazing, spectacular, and any other Spidey adjective you want to throw at it too, and it sounds like Sony have a LOT of confidence in this one.
