Miles Morales is one of Marvel's greatest ever characters - and he's only been around for seven years.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles started out life in the Ultimate universe before making the leap to Marvel's 616 timeline in the wake of Secret Wars, linking up with Peter Parker as New York slowly but surely accumulated a number of Spider-Men.
Interesting to note is that Peter's death is what spurs Miles to assume the Spidey identity in the comics. Peter's actually killed in a fight with Green Goblin, and though the trailer frames that confrontation as the beginning of the film, don't be surprised if it returns to it at a later point in time.
Either way, it's fantastic to see Miles leading the way this time. Sure, it might not be the MCU, but it's still great nonetheless.
