Spider-Gwen, like Miles Morales, is one of the best things to happen to Marvel in recent years.
Introduced in an Edge of Spider-Verse spin-off in 2015, this particular Spider-Woman is actually Gwen Stacy, who - in a cruel twist of fate - actually saw Peter Parker die at the same time Gwen did in the comics' traditional 616 continuity.
Hailee Steinfeld will play the character in the film, an actor more known these days for her singing career than she is for her acting one. Having broken onto the scene in 2010's True Grit remake, she's since starred in sequels to Pitch Perfect, Ender's Game and 3 Days To Kill. Edge of Spider-Verse will be her first superhero role, but hopefully it's a sign of things to come!
Also important to note is that the Spider-Gwen comic has been a consistent hit for Marvel since its debut, and with an appearance in the upcoming Marvel Rising under her belt too, this could signal the start of a massive rise for the hero.
