Given his transportation to the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (in a scene that was directed by No Way Home's Jon Watts), it was reasonable to assume that Tom Hardy's Venom would have a small role in No Way Home.

In the end though, he was relegated to the mid-credits scene, but we did come close to seeing more of him in the film - specifically, during the final battle at the new-and-improved Statue Of Liberty. According to McKenna and Sommers, the idea of including Venom here was "definitely discussed."

As for how a character who's never met Peter Parker could be transported to the MCU in the first place, given that Strange's spell pulled in people who knew Peter was Spider-Man? "The idea is that the symbiote has knowledge of other universes. Buried in his brain is some knowledge of that connection,” explained McKenna.

Plot hole solved.
