Spider-Man: No Way Home: 24 WTF Moments

19. Strange's Botched Spell

By far the clunkiest part of the entire film is the whole spell scenario which tees the rest of the movie up.

Peter asks Strange to cast a spell that will make everyone forget that he's Spider-Man, but mid-way through the spell he realises that he doesn't want everyone to forget, and so begins throwing exceptions at Strange such as MJ, Ned, and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).

This ends up causing instability in the spell, effectively corrupting it and creating the multiversal rift which allows villains from other universes to break through into this one.

It's a difficult plot point to swallow, however, because as arrogant as Strange can be, would he really not take a seat and talk through the particulars of the spell with Peter?

Given that this is literally a spell to brainwash the world, as Strange himself puts it, it's absolutely ridiculous that he didn't discuss the implications of the spell with him.

It's weak writing in a movie that clearly just wants to get the whole multiverse angle going as fast as possible.
