No Way Home's fan service may get viewers giddy, but the film is arguably at its most effective storytelling-wise when dealing with Peter's affecting journey to become a better person, and also a better hero.

While Spider-Man 2 is generally accepted to be the high point of Spidey's big-screen character development, No Way Home finds room to one-up it with some jolting twists and turns ahead of a deeply gratifying payoff.

In conjunction with Holland's terrific performance and the aforementioned nostalgia-focused tone, this is a dew-eyed Spider-Man sequel that more often than not earns the tears it just might wring from your eyes, by way of both joy and sadness.

If Spider-Man as a character tends to operate in cheerier, more optimistic shades, No Way Home moves into some more challenging and interesting spaces which present fascinating implications and opportunities for future stories.
