As soon as Sony registered the URL for Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans turned their attention to decoding the potential new title. The result was the realisation that 1984's Spider-Man Homecoming arc featured the first official reveal of the black symbiote suit in the wake of the Secret Wars arc.

Obviously, having Venom even casually hinted at was a strong marketing move by Sony and Marvel, even if it turns out there's no actual link in the material. What's more likely is that the film will share the comics post-traumatic story elements, with Spider-Man settling back to his duties with a new suit in familiar surroundings.

Sony's Movie Chairman Tom Rothman said the title is obviously also a high school reference and €œshows Peter Parker€™s enduring conflict saving the world and getting your homework done€. Inevitably, it's also a wink to Spider-Man€™s return to the Marvel universe at play in there as well.
