Way back in June 2015, Kevin Feig spoke to Slash FIlm about what we could expect from the Marvel stand-alone, and one of his comments in particular drew considerable attention.

He said that "Spider-Man be a John Hughes movie" - and specifically one of his high school movies apparently - that would explore different sides of the character than what the five previous movies have focused on.

"The most obvious being the €˜young, doesn€™t quite fit in€™ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn€™t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we€™re excited about. [] ome of my favorite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories, he€™s in high school for a lot of it. We want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the MCU, which is something else we want to explore: how unique he is when now put against all these other characters."

If the Hughes influence manifests in the celebration of losers and nerdy, quip-filled charisma then it's a very exciting idea.
