Stan & Ollie: First Poster For Steve Coogan & John C Reilly's Biopic Debuts
(Not) another fine mess...
Hollywood audiences love nothing more than affectionate biopics. Throw in a side of Anglophilia - see Saving Mr Banks, Christopher Robin and The King's Speech - and you've got a winning formula, particularly when the cast is right.
We'll soon be talking about Stan & Ollie in the same light, hopefully, as Jon S Baird's portrait of comedy legends Laurel and Hardy lands in cinemas in 2019. Starring John C Reilly (who knows comedy and pathos like the back of his hand) and Steve Coogan (likewise), the film has been written by Philomena screenwriter Jeff Pope and promises to be a fitting love letter to the duo.
And we've now got a first poster for the film, which goes heavy on understatement and the immediately recognisible sight of a pair of bowler hats...
The official synopsis reads like this...
"Stan Laurel & Oliver "Babe" Hardy, the world’s favorite comedy double act, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As they set out, crisscrossing the country, attendances are disappointingly low. But they’ve always been able to make each other laugh and as the charm and beauty of their performances shines through their audiences laugh too, and they re-connect with legions of adoring fans, old and new.”
