Star Trek: 10 Embarrassing Movie Scenes That Should Never Have Been Filmed

8. Kirk Not Really Falling - Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Kirk Falling While it is nowhere near as bad as people label it, the biggest problem with Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was the less than convincing special effects. The Final Frontier was William Shatner's Star Trek movie to do with as he wished. Being director, he soon discovered the problems that can plague a production, no matter how much control you have. Industrial Light and Magic were responsible for all the special effects in the previous Star Trek movies, but when Shatner asked them to provide the visuals for The Final Frontier, he was told that they are too busy with Ghostbusters II and Back To The Future III. Racing against time, Shatner was forced to hire a man in a garage to create the effects for his Star Trek movie. For the most part, it wasn't a major issue - the original series didn't have spectacular special effects and that never stopped people from enjoying the show, but there is one sequence that is just embarrassingly bad. Interrupting Kirk's climb up El Capitan in Yosemite Park, Spock decides that mid-climb is the best time to quiz his friend about why he is risking his life, climbing a mountain. Kirk loses his grip and falls and Spock dashes to his rescue in his snazzy gravity boots. The problem is that the falling sequence is clearly just Shatner waving his arms, as he hangs upside down in front of a blue screen. I know they couldn't throw Shatner off a real mountain, but they aren't trying to make it look convincing at all. They didn't even bother to make sure he was wearing the right colour jacket when they shot the ''special effect.''
