9. A British Tar - Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek: Insurrection had a lot of problems and out of all the possible candidates for worst scene, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Datas ethical subroutine kicks in and makes him malfunction and act all crazy. He takes to joyriding in a shuttle and it is up to Picard and Worf to try and capture him safely. They attempting the usual route of trying to outthink the android, but that doesn't work. So Picards unique solution is to pipe "A British Tar" from the Gilbert and Sullivans opera H.M.S. Pinafore to Datas shuttle on the off-chance that it might trigger his memory about opera because he was rehearsing it before he lost the plot. Exactly what a film needs in the middle of a tense chase sequence. The audience has to endure a butt clenching scene where Picard and Data sing a song from an opera that no one in the audience knows or cares about, while Worf does his embarrassed Klingon routine. But it does have one good gag: Picard asks Worf if he is familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan to which our Klingon replies: No, I have not had a chance to meet all the new crew members since I've been back.
