Though Star Trek: First Contact was notable for its introduction of more new starships than any other film or television episode in the franchise (up to that point), it wasn't immune to Star Trek's proud tradition of recycling some spaceships.

Alongside the Enterprise-E, Defiant, Akira-class, Steamrunner-class, Norway-class, and Saber-class, ILM peppered the Battle of Sector 001 with three ships from Treks past. These ships included a Nebula-class starship, an Oberth-class starship, and a Miranda-class starship – all three filming miniatures making their final appearances, the Oberth and Miranda-class models having been mainstays of the Star Trek motion pictures since the early-1980s.

Though the three recycled starships are actually pretty hard to make out as the battle ensues, background dialogue actually refers to the USS Bozeman – a modified Miranda-class starship (aka Soyuz-class) that featured in Star Trek: The Next Generation's classic fifth season episode "Cause and Effect".

While simply name dropped by co-writer Brannon Braga who happened to hail from Bozeman, Montana, the presence of the USS Bozeman in the battle was later elaborated on in the non-canon novel "Ship of the Line" (featuring Kelsey Grammer's Captain Morgan Bateson) and Decipher's Star Trek Customizable Card Game (basically Star Trek's answer to Magic: The Gathering) which produced a collectible card of the ship in its 1997 Star Trek: First Contact expansion.
