Star Trek 3: 10 Reasons Why We Already Know It Will Suck

7. Pointless 5 Year Mission

USS_Enterprise_(alternate_reality)_at_warp At the end of Into Darkness, Kirk and the Enterprise went out on the beginning of a five-year mission. But I can€™t have been the only one who thought €˜€™what€™s the point?€™€™ You can make a fair bet that the five year mission will only be given a tiny lip service in Star Trek 3. Because it€™s a movie, they are not going to write a film where the crew explores uncharted territory; that will be too boring. The film will have an easily identifiable antagonist who is targeting Earth. Why Earth? Because that€™s been the case in both of the previous movies. Unless the villain has found a way to destroy the whole universe, any other perceived danger is going to look like small fry if Earth is not the target once again. In both of Abrams Star Trek movies, the action has always come back to Earth. Every time the crew warps out of the solar system, 10 minutes later they are back in Earth€™s orbit. So prepare for the five year mission to be conveniently forgotten about because it will no longer fit the needs of the script.
