3. J.J Abrams Still In Charge
The current holy messier of Hollywood, JJ Abrams, will continue to be the grand overseer of Star Trek 3. And with that, he will make sure that Star Trek 3 is more of the same fluff that made the other two movies so disposable. There is no denying that Abrams (for some reason) is the go to guy for sci-fi at the moment. The self confessed director, who said that Star Trek was too philosophical for him, now has a pick of the projects he wants to do. Due to the commercial success of Star Trek 2009 and Into Darkness, Disney gave him Star Wars as well, a franchise he is much better suited for. Setting aside that one man is in charge of two of the biggest sci-fi franchises, the continued obsession with Abrams is something that baffles me. The man is a competent director in terms of making things look nice, but when it comes to the other important parts of directing i.e. getting the best from your cast or delivering a story that makes sense, he fails every time. As a director, he should have been the first to point out all the problems with the two Star Trek movies he made, but he either ignored them or it wasnt something he was interested in ironing out. It was all about the glitz, and the substance took a back seat. Abrams wont be directing the third movie but is still in charge. Who ever is brought in will have to put up with Abrams directing from the side lines in the same way Christopher Nolan was clearly directing Man Of Steel. And that means very little will be different and the new director will have a hard time putting his own stamp on the movie. So expect lots more lens flare.
