7. Klingons As The Villains
For those who are reading this post and haven't seen Star Trek Into Darkness yet, the best glimpse you're going to get of the new Klingon design is as above (a grainy still lifted from a new teaser). They have a small but crucial role to play in the events of Into Darkness, as John Harrison flees to the Klingon homeworld Kronos following a terrorist attack he orchestrated in London. There we briefly see the Klingons confront the Enterprise away team, at which point they remove their helmets to reveal their new look; along with the expected ridge formation on their heads, the ridges have rings attached to them, giving the Klingons a new, distinctive look to this universe. Though their appearance ends briefly thereafter once Harrison instigates a shootout, one can hope that this thread isn't just left dangling when it comes to the third film. After all, aren't the Klingons going to possibly suspect that this was all an attack on the part of Starfleet, and not simply Harrison acting on his own? Plus, Damon Lindelof has said "You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in weve given the audience a little taste, but theres also the promise that theres a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see", confirming that he above all others would like to use them again.
