2. Eric Bana As Nero (Star Trek)
For all its faults, Star Trek 2009 was a commercial success. But when you sat down and thought about it afterwards, there were so many holes in Star Trek 2009, you could repackage it as Swiss cheese. One of the problems is the movie villain, the Romulan Nero. Played by Eric Bana, who is more than a credible actor, Nero was a Romulan that held a grudge the size of the Alpha Quadrant. Having witnessed his home planet be destroyed by a magical supernova that threatened to destroy the galaxy, Nero ended up traveling back in time and proceeded to take out his anger on the Federation. He was angry with the Federation for not doing more to save the Romulans, he was angry with the Vulcans for not doing more to save the Romulans and he was angry with Spock for not doing more to save the Romulans. He spent 25 years angry while he waited for older-Spock to also travel back to the same time period so that he could make him watch the destruction of Vulcan. He was very angry with everyone! However, angry as he was, at no point did he think that before he went about committing genocide, it might be a good idea to warn the Romulans about the impending doom from the supernova. In fairness, no one seemed too bothered to warn the Romulans about the destruction they would face in the not too distant future. And that is the problem Eric Bana had. The look was there, the acting capability was there but all the other stuff like motivation and script that an actor needs to put in a good performance was missing. The best actor in the world can start reading lines but if the lines make no sense, the way they are performed is not going to make any difference. All he could do was look like he was in a sulk, walk around like a moody teenager and shout. After a while it just got boring.
