Star Trek Beyond: 10 Best Moments
2. The Beastie Boys Save The Day
Perhaps the most unexpected and insane moment in the entire movie comes in the third act as Kirk and co. attempt to devise a way to destroy Krall's drones that devastated the Enterprise earlier on.
They decide that playing dissonant noise at the drones' frequency should throw their formation off, allowing them to easily wipe the floor with the drones on the way to confronting Krall.
Cue Scotty using Jaylah's music system to blare The Beastie Boys' Sabotage at the frequency, allowing the crew to destroy the scattered, formless drones with total ease.
It's a supremely cool moment that hearkens back to Kirk's love of The Beastie Boys from the first movie, and while inherently ridiculous, it's also an extremely bada** scene in its own right. You have to give Simon Pegg and Justin Lin credit for daring to go so such a risky place, and moreover, actually pulling it off with a proud, dumb grin on their faces. Terrific.
