Star Trek Beyond: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

4. James T. Kirk (Chris Pine)

Star Trek Beyond Jaylah Uhura
Paramount Pictures

Kirk gets some excellent character development in Beyond, specifically as he considers leaving the Enterprise to become Vice Admiral and is now a year older than his father ever lived to be.

This isn't a mopey Kirk by any means, though: he gets a ton of the movie's most memorable moments, teaming up with Chekov and riding a vintage motorcycle in order to distract the enemy at a pivotal moment.

Of course, Kirk stays with his crew by movie's end, but the character work felt genuine, and though many were initially hesitant about him playing the part, Chris Pine again proves how superbly well-cast he is for the role.

We're still waiting for him to meet up with William Shatner's future version of Kirk, though...
