2. The Hand-To-Hand Combat Is Iffy

So yeah, the movie has pretty great action throughout that’s consistently inventive and varied. There’s one area, however, where it really didn’t work for me; the hand-to-hand combat.

It’s most prominent in the Enterprise crash and a side-fight during the motorbike sequence, but throughout the fist fights just weren't engaging. It feels like at random points Lin suddenly though he was Paul Greengrass, shaking the camera and cutting incessantly, but he can't get the cuts to flow right and we’re so close up it becomes impenetrable.

It’s so strange when everything else works so well. Although at least it’s better than the Gorn showdown.
