Star Trek Beyond Review: 8 Ups And 2 Downs

1. It Moves Way Too Fast

We may have a story that actual feels like a fully well-rounded plot, but sometimes things are moving so frantically it doesn’t get time to breathe. The positive side of this constant pace is it’s very hard to get bored, but it also means subtler beats can be rushed over and underplayed. Jaylah’s hurt a bit by this; overall she’s a great new addition, but her long-standing goal to get off the planet is made increasingly less prominent as the film goes on.

It’s not even like it the two hour runtime needed stretching - there’s several individual shots that if they’d run on for just a few more seconds would have a much more profound impact.

Given how poor the pacing of other films this year have been, however, it's a minor quibble in a film that is simply good, old fashioned fun. Ignore the trailers and check it out.
