They're definitely vintage goggles, so there's definitely some time travelling going on here. Or at least an odd wormhole that somehow transports a motorbike from Earth to this alien planet (please please don't let this be a future alternate timeline Earth)... The end sequence also confirms that we can expect more quipping. But why exactly does it hurt? The physics of the teleporter wouldn't also teleport their velocity, otherwise they'd both hit the floor at a pretty damaging speed. So yeah, maybe don't pick away at the logic too much.
