28 seconds into the trailer and already what looks like three Starship red shirts have been mercilessly sacrificed. This little sequence furthers the idea of a hive mind, with individual ships acting as weapons - or kamikaze pilots - designed to take out strategic target and cripple the Enterprise. Apparently shields aren't really a thing yet. Or maybe they're taking a lead from Deep Space Nine and having a race - like the Dominion - who have developed weaponry resistant to Starfleet defences.
