Star Trek Into Darkness: 5 Reasons John Harrison Is Greatest Ever Trek Villain

5. The Parallel

JohN harrison As with the greatest of all villains (the Joker and Darth Vader for instance,) Harrison is the antipathy of everything Spock and Kirk stand for, but the best thing about Abrams' villain is that he is also a walking composite of everything both Kirk and Spock represent. He is honourable (to his own agenda,) hyper-intelligent and committed to logic, and he is as bloody-mindedly devoted to his causes as the Enterprise's most famous captain. Shakespeare long heralded the concept that all men have the capacity for evil, exploring the internal battle of Jekyll and Hyde long before Stevenson personified the differences, and Harrison's most stunning success is thanks to his being a reflection of Kirk in particular, but also Spock. He is a grotesque, made all the more horrible to his assailants by his familiarity.
