Star Trek Into Darkness Poster Rips-Off The Dark Knight Rises

Just days after the eventual reveal of the official Star Trek Into Darkness synopsis, Paramount Pictures have now released the first teaser poster for J.J. Abrams' much-anticipated sequel. The poster, which features an undeclared figure (it could easily be Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto's Spock or perhaps even Benedict Cumberbatch's still unnamed villain) looking over a mass of destruction, instantly to us recalls that of The Dark Knight Rises' logo blowing out of a building and with Batman looking down over Gotham crumbling. If you were to take away the "Star Trek Into Darkness" film title and the rather ingeniously framed silhouette of the Star Trek logo, you would be hard pressed to know it was a poster for a Star Trek film. Here's the poster in full; Star Trek Into Darkness is due in cinemas from Summer 2013 and also stars Karl Urban (McCoy), John Cho (Sulu), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yelchin (Chekov) Bruce Greenwood (Captain Pike), Alice Eve and Peter Weller.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17, 2013. Do let us know in the comments below what you think of the first official Star Trek 2 poster.
