Star Trek Into Darkness Super Bowl Trailer: 4 Things We Learned

2. Is Spock Set To Die... Again?

Into Darknes In the midst of the trailer, it was hard to ignore the very striking image of Spock standing in the middle of what appeared to be a sea of angry molten lava, and you have to wonder how exactly Spock plans to get out of the situation, let alone why he is in there in the first place. And where exactly is there - it certainly doesn't look like Earth? Surely they aren't going to kill Spock again? Obviously the parallels to the end of The Wrath Of Khan are irresistible at this point, and perhaps the trailer is designed merely to play upon that as misdirection, but his situation certainly looks pretty perilous. At the very least, he's going to have a few singes. And if that wasn't enough, there's just something about the way the trailer comes across that implies that something spectacularly affecting happens - and tell me that kiss between Uhura and Spock isn't one of goodbye. It might seem odd that they would include such an overt reference to Spock's death as to have him standing in a raging sea of lava
