Star Trek The Motion Picture: 10 Reasons It's Underrated

1. It Led To All The Other Trek Things

But it didn€™t end there! We got nearly a dozen other Trek movies, plus hours, upon hours, of new TV shows in the form of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. We got novels, some of which are truly exceptional, video games, comic books, RPGs, and list after list of reasons why Kirk is better than Picard and vice versa. All of that, every single bit of it, really got started here. Had this movie flopped, all that would have never been.

As I€™ve said, this movie is not without its flaws. It really has appallingly bad pacing, including all those endless, boring shots of the Enterprise flying through V€™Ger. The director€™s cut version, out on DVD, helps with a lot of that, but it isn€™t perfect.
