Star Wars: 10 Actors' Roles That Ruin Their Classic Character

5. Frank Oz Is Kermit's Girlfriend - The Muppet Show

Empire Strikes Back Miss Piggy Kermit Yoda

When Luke Skywalker (and the audience) first met Yoda he was a strange, borderline insane swamp hermit. Of course, everyone instantly fell in love with the diminutive gremlin, his confusing speech patterns and his ability to lift spaceships with his mind. The Empire Strikes Back saw him taking up the challenge of training one more Jedi with the modest goal of restoring balance to the force and saving the universe. The less said about him flipping around like a cat on LSD in the prequels the better.

Master Yoda’s trademark raspy delivery was dreamed up by puppet voicing legend Frank Oz who you might recognize as a name closely associated with The Muppets. Up until 2001 there was a specific voice he performed which is notable for both belonging to a character as far removed from Yoda as it’s possible to go, while having some disquieting similarities when listening to the two speak side by side. I am of course referring to the original subject of Kermit’s porcine desire, Miss Piggy.

By the time you've wrapped your head around everything wrong with this it's too late to see either puppet the same way. The duty of screeching Piggy’s lines may have passed on to Eric Jacobson, but, as he is imitating Oz, every time you watch a new episode of The Muppets featuring the delicious deli-meat diva your reverence of Master Yoda will decrease.
