Star Wars: 10 Actors' Roles That Ruin Their Classic Character
2. Mark Hamill Is A Parody of Himself - Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back
All he wanted was some power converters from the Tosche Station. Instead was whisked away on a quest through a universe populated by bickering robots, space sasquatches and creepy family dynamics (“Somehow I’ve always known?” Gross). Young Mark Hamill’s portrayal of a whiny teenager growing-the-hell-up anchored the original Star Wars trilogy through its classic: ‘everyman becomes unstoppable thought-controlling wizard’ narrative.
While Hamill may not have fit the criteria of a conventional movie hero, surely there was promise of a successful film career following his role in such an epic cinematic achievement? Well, we all know what happened next. Though Hamill has found critical praise through his voice acting, it’s widely regarded that he drew one of the short straws George Lucas must have handed out as wrap party gifts.
History has shown it's possible to retain some credibility while making a living mocking yourself, look at Adam West… oh right. It's hard to ever take young Skywalker seriously again after years of Hamill parodying the one role that gave him a brief taste of A-List status. A prime example of this is his part in stoner sensation, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, in which he puts way too much manic effort into a character called ‘The Cocknocker’. There's even a riff on a lightsaber duel involving a glowing bong. Tsk tsk, what would Master Yoda say?
