Star Wars: 10 Coolest Moments in The Expanded Universe

3. Obi-Wan And Anakin€™s Climactic Battle In The €œRevenge of the Sith€ Novel

rinrio How boring was the Obi Wan-Anakin fight in €œRevenge of the Sith?€ So freaking dull. Overly choreographed, poorly acted, with a ludicrous number of special effects. But in the novel, the fight is epic, heartbreaking, and essentially a character piece. The fighting itself is well written (Stover writes a lot of action, and he has several martial arts black belts: he knows his way around a fight scene), but what really makes the scene epic is the emotions behind it. These are two characters who were the last great heroes of the Jedi Order, two men who saved one another countless times, who have fought beside one another and sparred together so many times Obi-Wan can barely believe this is a real fight to the death. It€™s a fight between comrades. But Obi-Wan and Anakin€™s relationship was deceptively harmonious. Obi-Wan was not the best father figure in the world, and although he did his best, he couldn€™t save Anakin from himself, from the dark side, or from the Emperor. And Anakin destroyed everything that had ever given Obi-Wan€™s life meaning. There€™s this line during the fight €œit was just the two of them, and the damage they had done to each other.€ It€™s a great scene.
