Why He Could Fix It: J.J. Abrams is pretty much the definition of a safe pair of hands as far as contemporary blockbuster filmmakers go, and the fact he pulled off rock solid work on The Force Awakens has to surely place him in contention.

How Likely Is It?: It was pretty clear from interviews with Abrams that working on TFA took a lot out of him, and so he may prefer to simply approach Star Wars as a fan from this point on.

At the same time, though, with apparently just three weeks of shooting remaining, Abrams' schedule would clearly be a lot less strenuous this time, and he would just need to oversee post-production from that point.

Plus, Abrams doesn't have any directorial gigs on the horizon right now, and is spending most of his time merely producing, so he could probably slot this gig in pretty neatly. 7/10
