Star Wars: 10 Expanded Universe Characters We Hope To Never See Again

1. Gormaanda €“ The Star Wars Holiday Special

Star Wars Gormaanda

That sound you€™re hearing at the moment is the jaws of all the people who thought that Jar Jar Binks was the epitome of Star Wars€™ racial insensitivity dropping so hard that they smash through the floor. I know this was the seventies but who the hell decided that not only should actor Harvey Korman be in drag (yes that is a man) but he should also be blacked up. It defies both belief and good taste. But first, some background. Gormaanda originally appeared in The Star Wars Holiday Special (something that a lot of people, including George Lucas, prefer to think never happened) in a segment where Chewbacca€™s wife Malla watches a cooking programme presented by Gormaanda but can€™t keep up with her as Gormaanda has four arms and is able to cook at a faster pace than Malla. Despite the fact that appearing in the Holiday Special is something in itself that would make a character eligible for inclusion this list, there€™s so much more wrong with Gormaanda. In addition to her being played by a blacked up man in a dress, as a character Gormaanda has no reason to exist. Almost all Star Wars fans couldn€™t give a monkey€™s about the galaxy€™s celebrity chefs. A celebrity chef has no bearing on any kind of galactic or personal struggle that is the heart of the franchise. We don€™t need a four armed alien Nigella Lawson. Though the idea of Gormaanda acting like Nigella Lawson is probably the least arousing thing anyone can think of. And finally, like many of the characters on this list, Gormaanda is absolutely infuriating. Anyone who has seen the Holiday Special and doesn€™t have the patience of a saint will have been driven to the point of insanity by her saying €œStir whip stir€ in various combinations over and over again. Astoundingly, Gormaanda briefly appeared in a comic strip decades after the Holiday Special and was given a bit of a backstory at some point. But then again, that tentacle thing in Jabba€™s palace in Return Of The Jedi got a backstory as well so it€™s all relative really. But bar that, she€™s been completely and utterly forgotten. May she never appear in Star Wars again. Rest in hell, Gormaanda. You earned it. Which Expanded Universe characters do you want to never see again? Let us know in the comments section below.
