Star Wars: 10 Expanded Universe Starships You Didn't Know Were Canon Again

2. E-wing Escort Fighter

The E-wing was a major actor in the New Republic era of the EU, playing a significant role in every battle from the Black Fleet Crisis, the war with the Imperial Remnant, through to the infamous Yuuzhan Vong War.

Designed specifically to replace the ageing X-wing, the E-wing suffered a number of teething problems, with malfunctions plaguing its laser cannons and the New Republic experiencing shortages of the new R7 series of astromechs needed to operate it. But the New Republic persisted and by the time of the Second Galactic Civil War the type had matured into an excellent starfighter, one faster, tougher, more agile and packing a greater punch than its famed predecessor.

In terms of its canon debut the, E-wing – or something that is the splitting image of it – makes an appearance in issue twenty three of the Marvel comic book series, Star Wars: Poe Dameron, and while the fighter has not yet been given an official designation, if the Dreadnought-class is any guide, it is only a matter of time.

Here’s hoping Poe gets to fly one.
