Star Wars: 10 Fanfilms That Did It Way Better Than Lucas
1. Pitching Lucas
We end with another love story to George Lucas and another winner of the George Lucas Selects award. George Lucas has said that he likes parodies and this short film by Shane Felux makes you want to laugh and facepalm with its irresistible stupidity. Three TV executives come to George, knowing intuitively that he could really use some ideas for the Star Wars TV series. They have, of course, interrupted a productive writing session in which we see his ideas played out around him in his charmingly decorated study. The ideas they come up with are unoriginal and dumb, of course. It's all well and good to make your own Star Wars/Charlie's Angels spoof, but you don't take it to the big guy. That would be like taking the admittedly-hilarious "Mysterious Ticking Noise" from Potter Puppet Pals and telling JK Rowling that it should be the plot of the next Harry Potter book. The best parts of this are the "dismissals" by George. The actor playing him is a dead ringer, so having him turn his movie characters' strategies against the foppish executives is hilarious. And appropriately, it ends with what we were all thinking for him: "And that's why I write it myself."
